Here Come the Girls – To Pontypridd!
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council have announced that Ponty’s Big Weekend WILL be returning this summer!

Get ready because here come the girls, the multi platinum album, Brit Award Winning and hugely successful, girl band, Sugababes will headline the weekend’s events, on Saturday 18th July, which will also see the return of the music, comedy and family entertainment that attracted thousands of people to Pontypridd last year.

This year’s event is set to take place on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July and is expected to be bigger, better and encourage an even greater crowd than last year, with a special free concert being held on the Sunday, with a star studded line up, that includes; BBC Last Choir Standing Winners - Only Men Aloud, renowned Opera singer, Sian Cothi and many, many, more to be announced shortly.
Councilor Russell Roberts, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: "The Council’s Big Weekend was an outstanding success last year and RCTCBC is all set to do it again in 2009. Events of this kind are exactly what the Council aims to attract with the regeneration that is taking place all over the County Borough. The Big Weekend was THE event of 2008 and really put not only Pontypridd but the whole of the county on the map."
"The income generated in the local economy from these events is a real boost, especially in the current economic climate. This year we are expecting an even bigger crowd, thanks to the star studded line up."
Christian Hanagan, Head of Strategy, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, added: "This year promises to be even bigger and better! We are currently looking into staging even more events that will increase the spend and footfall within the County Borough. This year we are expecting an even bigger crowd, thanks to the star studded line up."
