Education
The Environmental Education Service
Rhondda Cynon Taf has its own Environmental Education Service which is based at Dare Valley Country Park. The Service is part of the Life Long Learning section.
What can Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Environmental Education Service offer you?
The Service offers day and residential tuition programme suitable for both primary and secondary school pupils; a copy of the standard menu is available online or request. However, programmes can be devised and tailored to suit the needs of the visiting groups.
River study
Local schools are familiar with the excellent tuition provided. Just one example of the popular study days on offer is a river study. For primary schools, this involves children looking at the way the river changes from source to mouth with measurements being taken of width, velocity, depth and temperature. River studies are also offered for secondary schools, in these cases, tuition is tailored to the specific aims of the group.

Residential packages
If required, residential packages can be specifically designed to suit all school year groups. For Rhondda Cynon Taf schools these packages are an ideal opportunity to give children their first exciting residential experience, without having to travel too far from home. The residential facilities at Dare Valley Country Park are also available for those schools and groups wishing to organise their own programme. Optional tuition can be provided for a variety of subjects, details of which are available on request.
Education staff are presently undergoing training in order to become Forest School Leaders. A wide range of school activities are currently offered, including jewellery making, wood cookies, mud monsters and shelter building to name a few. These activities can be tailor made for any age group and ability.
