The History of Model House

Model House has had a long and chequered history having been a work house, a boarding house, an inn, a chemists shop and a glove factory, and now a Craft Centre.

Overlooking the Bull Ring, in the centre of the old town of Llantrisant, Model House was originally built as a workhouse in 1784 and derives its name from the philosophy that all who entered it would lead a life of model Christianity.

At the turn of the Century, it became a public house and grocers and later a general store. In the 1950's the building was bought by a glove manufacturer "Planet Gloves", who occupied the premises until the late 1960's. It stood empty for some years before being bought by the local authority to convert into its present use.
